Mrs. Pauline Moon Smith Spann, age 89, of Broxton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Spann, a lifelong Coffee County resident, was born March 22, 1936, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late Morgan Sidney Moon and the late Addie Mae Todd Moon. She was the owner and proprietor of Broxton Hardware for many years. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed working in her yard. Her favorite yard task was riding her zero-turn lawn mower. She was a member of Broxton Church of God for 40 years. Along with her parents, Mrs. Spann was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Grover C. Smith and W. S. Spann; a son, Clyde Smith; as well as seven siblings: Bennie Lee Moon, Alvin Jerome Moon, Frances Irene Moon Simmons, Geraldine Moon Coursey Epps, Lurlyne Moon Morris, Kathryn Moon Smith, and Ray Moon.
Mrs. Spann leaves behind three children: Joyce S Bland and husband, Maurice, of Glennville, Georgia, Denise S Craft and husband, Dennis, of Broxton, Georgia, and Gary Smith and wife, Hannah, of Broxton, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Sammijo Mercer (Brad), Amber Bland, Brian Bland, Levi Craft (Courtney), Ben Craft (McKenzie), Brandy Hicks (Michael), Garrett Smith (Ally), and Dillon Smith (Callie); eleven great grandchildren; two brothers: Don Moon and wife, Nadine, of Brooklet, Georgia, and Dale Moon and wife, Amie, of West Green, Georgia; and a sister Kay M. Grantham and husband, Johnny, of Broxton, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service was held to honor Mrs. Spann on Friday morning, March 6, 2026, at Broxton Church of God with Bishop Joey Copeland officiating and Rev. Bonnie Brown offering words of comfort and scripture. Musical selections offered by the Broxton Church of God Praise Team included “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” and “What A Day That Will Be”. Interment followed in the Reedy Branch Cemetery where Mr. Harry Smith offered a musical selection of “Amazing Grace” played on the harmonica.
Active pallbearers were Levi Craft, Ben Craft, Garrett Smith, Dillon Smith, Ethan Mercer, Jackson Mercer, Michael Hicks, and Jacob Hicks.
Honorary pallbearers were the adult Sunday School class of Broxton Church of God.
