Last Wednesday, the Coffee Trojans topped the Glynn Academy Red Terrors in two of the three statistical categories on the box score. The Terrors, however, bested the Trojans in the only one that counts – the scoring column.
Coffee outhit Glynn Academy 7-6. The Red Terrors made three errors to Coffee’s zero. But Glynn came away with a 5-2 win thanks in large part to a four-run third inning in which the Red Terrors scored all four runs with two outs. Glynn used a hit by pitch, a single, and three doubles to take a 4-0 lead.
The Trojans scored two in the bottom of the sixth when Reid Harden homered on a 2-1 pitch with Will Walker, who had singled, on base. The homer cut the Red Terrors’ lead in half but that would be all Coffee could muster.
Glynn added an insurance run in the seventh on a Wessley Roberson solo home run to lead off the inning.
Barrett Harrell led the Trojans at the plate with a 2-3 day. Harden drove in two and scored one.
Eli Wood took the loss in a three-inning outing. He struck out five and didn’t walk anyone. He gave up four runs, all earned, on four hits. Ben Fussell threw four innings in relief, striking out four, walking four and giving up one earned run on two hits.
The Trojans are 1-2 on the season and travel to Camden County Tuesday for a 6 p.m. rematch with the Wildcats in St. Marys.
