The Coffee Lady Trojans didn’t have the best of days Tuesday in Leesburg against the Lee County Trojans. Lee took advantage of five Coffee errors and came away with a 5-3 win in a battle between the top two teams in the region.
Lee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Coffee tied the game with two in the third but Lee pulled ahead again with two more runs in the bottom of the third. They added another run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 5-2. Coffee scored its final run of the game in the fifth when Allie Pridgen, who had singled earlier in the inning, scored after a Lee County error on an Addie Spikes fielder’s choice.
Ella Edge, Jocelyn Fender, and Bella Purvis all had two hits. Maggie Brown, Pridgen, and Spikes each had one hit.
Brown threw a complete game, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits. She struck out four and walked two.
The two teams finish the season series Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader at Faircloth Field in Douglas. Coffee is 13-8 overall and 10-4 against region opponents.
