A 22-year-old Broxton woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly wounding the father of her child in the chest with a knife. The initial call came in as a stabbing. When Douglas police officers arrived, they learned that the alleged assailant, Jamilla Dyous, 22, of Broxton, hadn’t been trying to stab the victim but was only attempting to slice him, per the incident report.
On August 9, 2026, at around 8:20 a.m., police officers were dispatched to an East Leon Street address in reference to a stabbing. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke to the victim, who said that Dyous had left the scene and returned to Broxton. However, other officers found Dyous’s car behind a neighbor’s house and believed she was still at the residence.
The victim had a visible wound on his chest though he stated that Dyous didn’t cause it, the report says. When asked about the wound, Dyous initially said she didn’t cause the wound and nothing had gone at the location. After further questioning, the report says, Dyous admitted to causing the wound. She said that she only intended to slice him not stab him, the report says.
Dyous stated that the two had been arguing and the victim had choked her. When he let her go, she grabbed a knife and cut him, the report says.
Dyous was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released on a $5,500 property bond.
In an unrelated matter, Best had been booked into the jail on August 8, 2026, and served 24 hours. He was not charged in this incident.
