The South Georgia State College Hawks softball team was involved in a four-vehicle accident in Thomasville on Wednesday while they were on their way to games against Thomas University.
According to witnesses, while in Thomasville and stopped in traffic, a Thomas County Fire Department truck rear ended one of the SGSC buses, which ran into the back of another SGSC team van. The van in turn struck the vehicle in front of it.
South Georgia State College released the following statement following the accident:
“South Georgia State College is aware of the traffic accident involving members of our Lady Hawks softball team while traveling to their game in Thomasville. The college is continuing to monitor the situation and is providing support to those affected. We thank the community for their concern and ask that everyone keep our student-athletes and staff in their thoughts as they recover from this incident. The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff remain our highest priority. “
Several players complained of injuries and were taken for treatment. Ultimately, all players were checked out by medical personnel as a safety precaution. Today’s games were cancelled due to the accident.
