A 29-year-old remains in the Coffee County Jail after he allegedly broke into numerous cars at a local business on East Ward Street.
On December 8, 2025, the complainant reported the incident to the Douglas Police Department. The call came in shortly after 3 p.m.; however, surveillance video showed that the incident took place around 3 a.m. The complainant stated that on the afternoon of December 8, he noticed a towel on the ground near one of the vehicles. That led him to review the surveillance cameras and he saw a man enter numerous vehicles on the property.
Officers were unable to identify the individual though they did get a good look at what he was wearing. A few days later, on December 12, 2025, an officer saw the suspect walking north on the walking trail. The incident report says that he was wearing the same thing he had on in the surveillance video while he was allegedly breaking into the vehicles.
The officer stopped the individual, identified as Lewis Deangelo Wilcox, 29, of Douglas. According to the report, Wilcox refused to answer questions from the officer. When the officer asked him about the entering autos incident, the report says that Wilcox replied, “If you got me on camera, then take me to jail.”
The officer obliged and arrested Wilcox on entering an auto with intent to commit theft or felony. He was granted a bond but remains incarcerated.
