A trio of Patriots combined for a no-hitter while Gray McLean and Thomas Gentry each paced the CCA offense with 2-3 days in their impressive six-inning, 10-0 win over the GHSA Class 2A Therrell High School Panthers Friday afternoon at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Playing in the Atlanta Braves’ home stadium, starter Blake Bryant set the tone early with another dominating performance. He mowed down the Panthers, needing just 53 pitches in his four innings of work. Bryant struck out eight and walked one. Skyler Woods and McLean each pitched a hitless inning in relief.
The Patriots scored two in the first, two in the second, and six in the fourth.
McLean led off the game with a single, stole second and third, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Woods. Gentry would score a few batters later when Mason Spivey grounded into a fielder’s choice.
CCA scored a pair of runs with two outs in the fourth. Bryant drove in Gentry with a triple. Tyson Crosby, who was pinch running for Bryant, scored the second run of the inning on a wild pitch with Woods at the plate.
In the fourth, the Patriots added to their 4-0 lead when Gentry drove in McLean for a 5-0 advantage. Gentry scored on an error to go up 6-0. Jackson Knight singled in Caydon Hall and Crosby for an 8-0 lead. Then, with one out, Landon Williams hit a triple that scored Bo Roberts. Clay Phillips drove in the 10th and final run when he lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Williams.
McLean had two hits, one of which was a double, and scored twice. Gentry also had two hits, scored three times, and drove in one. Crosby scored two runs and Knight drove in a pair.
The Patriots are 11-1 on the season. They have three games next week in Tampa at the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training facility the return to region play on Monday, April 13, against Vidalia Heritage Academy at Patriot Field.
