The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that unemployment rates fell in all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions in July.
“July brought a clear victory for Georgia: Unemployment fell in every single metro area and region,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When state leaders, local communities and Main Street businesses row in the same direction, results follow. We aren’t slowing down – our focus remains on putting Georgians to work, growing paychecks and building real opportunity in every corner of the state.”
Here is a synopsis of each regional commission:
Atlanta Regional Commission
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.2% over-the-month, the rate was 3.4% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 14,318 over-the-month and up 24,630 over-the-year, to 2,738,209.
- The number of employed was down 6,830 over-the-month and up 29,488 over-the-year, to 2,649,680.
- Initial claims were down 619 over-the-month and down 871 over-the-year, to 9,379.
Central Savannah River
- The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 4.0% over-the-month, the rate was 4.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 265 over-the-month and up 4,655 over-the-year, to 216,084.
- The number of employed was down 101 over-the-month and up 4,840 over-the-year, to 207,373.
- Initial claims were up 572 over-the-month and up 203 over-the-year, to 1,449.
Coastal Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 2.9% over-the-month, the rate was 3.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 2,460 over-the-month and up 3,805 over-the-year, to 370,813.
- The number of employed was down 1,063 over-the-month and up 4,630 over-the-year, to 359,902.
- Initial claims were up 133 over-the-month and down 107 over-the-year, to 1,065.
Georgia Mountains
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 2.9% over-the-month, the rate was 3.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 902 over-the-month and up 2,206 over-the-year, to 247,279.
- The number of employed was up 65 over-the-month and up 2,816 over-the-year, to 240,108.
- Initial claims were down 148 over-the-month and down 41 over-the-year, to 689.
Heart of Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.7% over-the-month, the rate was 4.3% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 814 over-the-month and up 3,282 over-the-year, to 119,925.
- The number of employed was up 1,278 over-the-month and up 3,836 over-the-year, to 115,492.
- Initial claims were up 12 over-the-month and down 532 over-the-year, to 557.
Middle Georgia
- The unemployment rate was d own four-tenths to 3.5% over-the-month, the rate was 3.7% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 713 over-the-month and up 518 over-the-year, to 226,108.
- The number of employed was up 269 over-the-month and up 1,061 over-the-year, to 218,245.
- Initial claims were down 38 over-the-month and down 81 over-the-year, to 732.
Northeast Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.1% over-the-month, the rate was 3.5% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 1,951 over-the-month and up 8,634 over-the-year, to 357,049.
- The number of employed was down 503 over-the-month and up 9,537 over-the-year, to 345,915.
- Initial claims were down 34 over-the-month and down 49 over-the-year, to 908.
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.1% over-the-month, the rate was 3.8% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 1,274 over-the-month and up 7,400 over-the-year, to 459,530.
- The number of employed was up 164 over-the-month and up 10,492 over-the-year, to 445,273.
- Initial claims were up 148 over-the-month and down 2,196 over-the-year, to 1,956.
River Valley
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 4.0% over-the-month, the rate was 4.2% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 584 over-the-month and up 550 over-the-year, to 145,152.
- The number of employed was down 107 over-the-month and up 898 over-the-year, to 139,417.
- Initial claims were up 106 over-the-month and down 64 over-the-year, to 692.
Southern Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.5% over-the-month, the rate was 4.1% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 369 over-the-month and up 753 over-the-year, to 173,748.
- The number of employed was up 1,160 over-the-month and up 1,802 over-the-year, to 167,722.
- Initial claims were up 175 over-the-month and down 471 over-the-year, to 750.
Southwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.6% over-the-month, the rate was 3.9% one year ago.
- The labor force was up 1,409 over-the-month and up 1,975 over-the-year, to 147,084.
- The number of employed was up 2,039 over-the-month and up 2,460 over-the-year, to 141,859.
- Initial claims were up 15 over-the-month and down 77 over-the-year, to 481.
Three Rivers
- The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 3.2% over-the-month, the rate was 3.5% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 972 over-the-month and up 2,404 over-the-year, to 272,771.
- The number of employed was up 51 over-the-month and up 3,203 over-the-year, to 264,134.
- Initial claims were down 242 over-the-month and down 303 over-the-year, to 1,185.
