Things didn’t go well for the CCA Lady Patriots against the Wayne County Yellow Jackets in Jesup Monday afternoon. The Jackets, ranked #5 in the GHSA’s postseason ranking formula in Class 5A, held the Lady Patriots scoreless and allowed just one hit in a 9-0 run-rule shortened win over CCA.
Wayne County scored two in the first, four in the third, and three in the fourth. In the fifth, needing a few runs to extend the game, the Lady Patriots went down in order, ending the game after 4 ½ innings.
Emma Gourley had CCA’s only hit, a two-out double to left in the fourth inning.
Shanley Meeks started and made it three innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits. She struck out four and walked two. Peighton Harper threw the final inning. She surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
The Lady Patriots won’t have a lot of time to dwell on this game. They return to the field today in a region contest against Robert Toombs in the much friendlier confines of Patriot Field in Douglas. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
