Wiregrass Georgia Technical College proudly announces that Joecephus Vaughan, a 74-year-old Adult Education student, has successfully completed the Commercial Truck Driving program and earned his commercial driver’s license (CDL). His achievement marks a historic milestone as the first-ever credit Integrated Education and Training (IET) graduate at Wiregrass.
Mr. Vaughan initially enrolled in Adult Education classes with the goal of earning his high school equivalency diploma. A retired truck driver, he expressed interest in returning to the industry and soon learned about Wiregrass’s IET Commercial Truck Driving program. Despite a shortened timeline to complete admissions requirements, including obtaining a medical certification and learner’s permit, Mr. Vaughan remained committed. He enrolled in both day and evening classes, allowing him to continue working toward his high school equivalency while completing the eight-week CDL training program. On May 7, 2026, he successfully passed his CDL driving test.
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College continues to focus on workforce development, student success, and innovative programming that meets the needs of its community. The IET program is designed to help Adult Education students earn industry-recognized credentials while simultaneously progressing toward their high school diploma or equivalency. By offering multiple career pathways, Wiregrass supports students in gaining valuable skills that lead to sustainable employment and long-term success.
“IET is impacting our students and community by helping students earn industry-recognized credentials while working to obtain their high school diploma,” said Trevecca Doggett, Adult Education Services IET Coordinator at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. “These classes help shape our students with workforce skills and contextualized adult literacy to better prepare them for our local workforce. Students like Mr. Vaughan demonstrate how these opportunities can lead to gainful employment while pursuing foundational educational skills.”
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s IET program is open to all Adult Education students and individuals seeking their high school equivalency diploma. The program offers a variety of career pathways aligned with regional workforce needs.
Students, community members, and interested participants are encouraged to enroll and explore available opportunities. To get started, individuals may contact Trevecca Doggett or visit any Wiregrass Adult Education location for more information.
