Wiregrass Georgia Technical College proudly announces a new student feature highlighting the success of its Dual Enrollment program through the story of former student Emmi Hamrick. This feature underscores the life-changing opportunities Dual Enrollment provides by allowing high school students to earn college credit, gain career experience, and get ahead on their educational journey.
Emmi Hamrick, a graduate of Lowndes High School, completed 18 hours of dual enrollment coursework, including nine hours through Wiregrass. Her experience allowed her to enter college ahead of schedule and save significantly on tuition. During her academic journey, Hamrick also returned to Wiregrass to complete the NAST Nurse Aide program, enabling her to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and gain essential hands-on healthcare experience. Today, she is a student at the University of Georgia majoring in Health Promotion on the Pre-Physician Assistant track and works in the summers as a CNA at Hospice of South Georgia.
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College continues to focus on expanding access to higher education, workforce development, and student success through programs like Dual Enrollment. By providing students with early exposure to college-level coursework and career pathways, the college supports long-term goals for both academic achievement and workforce readiness in South Georgia.
“Dual enrollment played a huge role in helping me work toward my career goals,” said Emmi Hamrick. “By completing many of my core classes while in high school at no cost, I was able to enter college ahead of schedule and focus more time on gaining patient care experience, serving others, and preparing for a career as a Physician Assistant.”
Wiregrass Georgia Technical College’s Dual Enrollment program allows eligible high school students to earn college credit while completing their high school diploma. Students can choose from a variety of academic and technical courses designed to support both college transfer and career pathways.
