Virginia Vickers Anderson, age 95 of Douglas, was born on July 28, 1918 in Douglas. She passed away Friday, June 27, 2014, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center.

After Mrs. Anderson’s marriage to Dale P. Anderson, She moved to Knoxville, Tn., in 1941 and worked many years with the Austin Tobacco Company as a bookkeeper. She was an active member of the O’Connor Senior Center, participating in many activities. Through other organizations and churches, she received much joy by helping distribute food and gifts to those in need, especially during the holidays. Mrs. Anderson was an avid fan of the UT Lady Vols Basketball team, having played basketball for Douglas High School in the 1930’s.

Preceded in death by her husband, Dale P. Anderson, parents Lewis and Emma M. Vickers, brothers, Lewis Vickers, Jr., Orville Vickers, and Jack Vickers, sisters, Alice V. Mills, Opal V. Crabb, and nephew, James Edwin Crabb. Survivors include sisters, Jane V. McNulty of Douglas, Nora V. Merritt of Douglas, several nieces and one nephew.

The family would like to offer special thanks to all the kind, caring people at Shady Acres Health Rehabilitation Center, Douglas Home Care, Dr. David Arnett, Dr. Griff Lindsey, and True Light Ministries. Heartfelt thanks to Virginia’s primary caregivers, Peaches Dennis and Jessica Lott. They always went above and beyond the call of duty with love and compassion toward Virginia, and she loved them dearly. Also, many thanks to those in Knoxville, which include Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Services, East Tennessee Personal Care Services, The O’Connor Senior Center and Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.

Graveside services will be held at the Douglas City Cemetery on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ricky Roberts, PhD, officiating. Music will be provided by her niece, Emma Bledsoe, singing “Victory In Jesus”.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shady Acres Resident Activity Fund, 1310 W. Gordon St., Douglas, GA 31533 or True Light Ministries, P.O. Box 28538, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
