An internet website that markets home security systems has released a study naming Douglas as the tenth most dangerous city in the state, just behind major metropolitan areas such as Albany and Atlanta.

Homesecurityshield.org released its findings on Wednesday, which the company says were based on statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s most recent uniform crime report.

In its release, Homesecurityshield.org states, “A crime is a crime, so we took both violent and property crimes into account when compiling our list of Georgia’s most dangerous cities. Our list of dangerous cities, however, are ranked according to violent crime rate…Our list is ranked by violent crime rate, but check each city listing to get a general idea of the city’s ranking in terms of overall criminal offenses. Only cities with populations over 5,000 were included. We also excluded cities with overall crime rates under 70.”

Here is the list of the state’s most dangerous cities according to the company’s findings, beginning with the most violent:

1.  College Park
2.  Stone Mountain
3.  Swainsboro
4.  Brunswick
5.  Atlanta
6.  Americus
7.  East Point
8.  Albany
9.  Cedartown
10. Douglas
11. Griffin
12. Norcross
13. Union City
14. Cordele
15. Eastman
16. Tifton
17. Dublin
18. Jesup
19. Macon
20. Hapeville

The report claims that a person’s chance of becoming a victim of a crime in Douglas is about one in nine, which could include violent or property crimes.
