The City of Douglas has received a Land and Water Grant from the Department of Natural Resources. The grant is in the amount of $100,000 and will be used for the renovation of tennis courts at Davis Wade Park and Wheeler Park. The City will provide matching funds in the amount of $100,000 included in SPLOST for recreation projects.
“We are delighted to receive this grant to help with the renovation costs of the tennis courts located at Davis Wade and Wheeler Park,” says Dale Batten, Community Development Director. “The bid process will begin soon. Renovation is anticipated to be underway within ninety (90) days.”
The Land and Water Conservation Fund program provides matching grants to states and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities (as well as funding for shared federal land acquisition and conservation strategies). The program is intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and facilities to stimulate non-federal investments in the protection and maintenance of recreation resources across the United States.
