Drug unit continues string of October busts

Authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday at this residence at 442 Bent Tree Circle. Twenty-seven grams of crack cocaine, along with marijuana and several firearms were recovered.

Officials with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit are continuing to report numerous arrests throughout the month of October.

On October 17, the Douglas Police Department responded to a shoplifting complaint at Wal-Mart.  During a brief investigation, DPD officers located Oxycontin tablets and marijuana on the suspect, identified as Christopher Allen Dean. Officers turned the case over to Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit detectives.  Dean was arrested for Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and Theft by Shoplifting (Misdemeanor).  Dean was also discovered to have outstanding arrest warrants in another county.

Also on the 17th, DPD officers responded to a second shoplifting complaint at Wal-Mart.  During a brief investigation, DPD officers discovered the suspect, identified as Benjamin Merritt, to be in possession of methamphetamine.  Merritt was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Theft by Shoplifting (Misdemeanor).

On October 21, DCDU detectives, along with GBI and DEA agents, executed a search warrant at 932 Boardwalk Circle in Douglas.  Detectives seized methamphetamine, an AK-47 pistol, a Beretta 9mm handgun and several items used in the manufacturing and packaging of methamphetamine.  Jesus Corona Chavez was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Cesar Velazquez – Hernandez was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both suspects are currently being held without bond on immigration holds placed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On October 27, DCDU executed a search warrant at 43 Amber Hills Rd.  Detectives seized methamphetamine, marijuana, a 9mm rifle and almost $1,000.00 cash.  Daniel Wells was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.

The following day, DPD officers attempted to stop a vehicle on S. Peterson Ave.  The driver of the vehicle led officers on a car chase before being apprehended several blocks away on Phillips St.  The driver, Jakata Jerome Phillips, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Fleeing / Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement Officers and several other traffic violations.

On October 29, DCDU K-9 officers stopped a vehicle on GA HWY. 32 at Clyde’s food store in Douglas on a vehicle occupied by George William Reliford and Buffanie Frances Waters.  Reliford and Waters were both arrested for Possession of Cocaine.

Also on the 29th, DCDU executed a search warrant at 442 Bent Tree Circle in Douglas.  Detectives seized 27 grams of crack cocaine, marijuana, a rifle and three handguns.  Ronnie Harris was arrested for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
