A Douglas woman who was suspected of attempting to steal items from Wal-Mart was also charged with two counts of narcotic possession last week after authorities discovered she was also carrying controlled substances.
On November 24, the Douglas Police Department responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Officers were advised by Wal-Mart Loss Prevention that Wanda Marie Moore had attempted to leave the store without paying for all of the items in her shopping cart.
Upon searching Moore and her belongings, officers found an unlabeled pill bottle containing ten Xanax tablets and ten Lorcet tablets. Officers contacted the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU), and Moore was arrested for Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and misdemeanor Theft by Shoplifting.
In an unrelated incident, DCDU officers also confiscated nearly two ounces of marijuana following a traffic accident that occurred last week.
On November 26, Douglas police responded to a traffic crash near the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 221and Bowens Mill Rd. Upon arrival, officers quickly noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from within one of the vehicles involved in the crash. After searching the vehicle, they discovered almost two ounces of marijuana in the vehicle; officers notified DCDU.
The occupants of the vehicle were transported by ambulance to Coffee Regional Medical Center. Following his release from CRMC, the passenger in the vehicle, Darien Sherod Brantley, was arrested for Possession of more than one ounce of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
