Domestic investigation leads to large drug discovery

Local law enforcement is reporting the arrest of one man after a large quantity of marijuana and other drugs were discovered while sheriff’s deputies were investigating a domestic disturbance.

Last Monday, Jan. 19, while officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene of a domestic incident, authorities located a undisclosed quantity of methamphetamine, over one pound of marijuana, a quantity of prescription Xanax tablets, and steroids. Agents with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) were contacted and, as a result of further investigation,  Devin Harper was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and three counts of Possession of a Scheduled Controlled Substance.

Law enforcement allows reports the following drug arrests made during the month of January:

Jan. 5 – Douglas Police Department patrolmen stopped a vehicle on Mark Hanna St. @ Kimbrough St. for a traffic violation.  During the course of the traffic stop, officers located a quantity of marijuana and crack cocaine. Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit detectives were contacted.  Stacey Daniels, Jr. was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.  Reginald Bernard Hawkins was arrested for Possession of Cocaine.

Jan. 6 – DCDU K-9 officers stopped a vehicle on US Hwy. 441 S. @ Harvey Vickers Rd. outside of Douglas for a traffic violation.  Officers found 11 Lorcet tablets.  Tiffany W. Reeves was arrested for Possession of a Scheduled Controlled Substance.

Jan. 7 – DCDU K-9 officers stopped a vehicle on Terrell Rd. off Old Bell Lake Rd. in Douglas for a traffic violation.  As the vehicle came to a stop in someone’s driveway, the front seat passenger bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot; officers apprehended him shortly thereafter.  Officers and DCDU detectives located powder cocaine and marijuana on the path which the passenger fled.  John Watts, Jr. was arrested for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor), and two counts of Abandonment of a Controlled Substance.  The driver of the vehicle was issued several citations by the Georgia State Patrol for Child Restraint Violations.

Jan. 13 – Douglas – Coffee HEAT Unit officers stopped a vehicle on N. Madison Ave. @ Gordon St. for a traffic violation.  During the traffic stop, officers located three packages of methamphetamine totaling ½ ounce, ¼ ounce of marijuana, and several scheduled tablets.  Mary Curry was arrested for two counts of Possession of a Scheduled Controlled Substance.  Candace Harper was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor).

Jan. 14 – DCDU K-9 officers stopped a vehicle on GA Hwy. 32 W. @ Touchton Dr. for a traffic violation.  During the traffic stop, officers located several packages of powder cocaine, marijuana, and a bottle of Valium.  Preston Fields was arrested for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Scheduled Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor).

Jan. 16 – Douglas – Coffee HEAT Unit officers and Coffee County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle during a road check on McDonald Rd. @ Railroad St. in Douglas.  Officers located 13 packages of cocaine; officers contacted DCDU.  Christopher Johnson was arrested for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute.
