South Georgia State College will be hosting renowned concert pianist Dr. Joe Chapman as he performs an evening concert honoring American composer George Gershwin on Tuesday, March 24, at 7 pm in Peterson Hall’s McGouirk Auditorium on the Douglas Campus.
From “I Got Rhythm” to “Rhapsody in Blue”, Dr. Chapman will perform time-honored favorites celebrating the life and music of George Gershwin, including such well-known selections as “Strike Up the Band”, “Fascinating Rhythm”, and “Summertime”, along with highlights from the monumental “Concerto in F”.
Dr. Joe Chapman is the Director of Keyboard Studies at the University of North Georgia where he also serves as conductor of the UNG Orchestra. He holds degrees in piano performance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of South Carolina. Dr. Chapman has served the music profession in a number of capacities including a term as president of the Georgia Music Teachers Association. The 2015 Evening with Gershwin Georgia concert tour includes performances in Jesup, Dalton, Douglas, Hawkinsville, Griffin, Americus, and Dahlonega.
The concert is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend and enjoy the time-honored music of George Gershwin as performed by Dr. Joe Chapman.
