Friends of General Coffee State Park, a local nonprofit that supports General Coffee State Park through volunteer and fundraising efforts, will assist the park host the Love Bug Festival. The event will include edible bug programs, insect related crafts, arts and craft section, dragonfly and butterfly hikes, insect demonstrations and much more. Concessions will also be available.

“We hope local residents will join us for the Love Bug Festival, which starts at 10 a.m. on Sept. 19 at Heritage Farm,” said Ginny Carver, president of Friends of General Coffee State Park. “The family-friendly event is an excellent opportunity for first-time guests and regular visitors to experience all that General Coffee State Park has to offer, such as camping, hiking the trails, canoeing, paddle boating, feeding farm animals and much, much more. Families that enjoy their experience are encouraged to participate in a future volunteer day, which is a great way to give back, improve our community and leave a lasting legacy. Georgia’s park system is, after all, the result of many generations’ efforts to protect and preserve these valuable resources. Volunteering together adds your family’s history to our local state park.”

The event is $1 per person with $5 parking, which is waived for Friends members with their Annual Park Pass. Interested guests may purchase a Friends membership, which provides discounts on rentals and purchases and is valid at any state park operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at General Coffee State Park or online at www.friendsofgastateparks.org.
.
General Coffee State Park is located at 46 John Coffee Rd. off Highway 32 East in Douglas, GA. Friends of General Coffee State Park is one of more than 50 chapters of Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, a statewide nonprofit whose mission is to promote and support Georgia’s state park system.  Through the combined efforts of more than 20,000 members, the organization provides critical support to Georgia’s state parks and historic sites.
