Douglas was recently ranked as one of the top micropolitan cities in the U.S. for new and expanding industrial facilities for bySite Selection magazine, the official publication of the Global FDI Association and the Industrial Asset Management Council.

The magazine ranked 576 of the nation’s micropolitan areas, cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county.

In addition, the State of Georgia claimed the number 5 spot on the top 10 list for most micropolitans.

“Douglas-Coffee County is proud to be ranked as one of the top micropolitan communities in the United States, and to have contributed to Georgia’s achievement,” said Andrea Taylor, Executive Director of the Douglas-Coffee County Economic Development Authority.  “We are blessed with leaders that work together for the common good of our community and we have a strong workforce and a diverse industry base that all equally add to our success.”

The U. S. Census Bureau defines a micropolitan area as “an urban core of at least 10,000 but less than 50,000 in total population”.

Typically, micropolitan cities are centers of population and production, drawing workers and shoppers from a wide local area.  Douglas’ population in 2015 was 11,589, Coffee County’s population was 42,356 and the community is known as a regional center of employment, healthcare, shopping and entertainment.
