Douglas man charged after ditching dope during chase

Tossing your illegal narcotics outside your car window in the midst of a police chase will not prevent you from getting arrested as one unlucky Coffee County man found out recently.

The Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 41-year-old Shantodd T. Reed of Douglas earlier this week for failure to maintain his lane of traffic.  As a K-9 deputy activated the emergency blue lights on the patrol vehicle, Reed allegedly sped off and, during the chase, threw out a plastic bag containing 3.375 ounces of marijuana that was recovered by a detective.

Reed was apprehended a short time later and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and felony fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. He was also issued numerous traffic citations from the Georgia State Patrol and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, including failure to stop at a stop sign (X4), failure to obey traffic control device (X2), failure to maintain lane (X2), tire requirements, driving too fast for conditions, and reckless driving.
