A Nicholls man faces 10 years to life in prison after being charged with the possession of approximately nine ounces of methamphetamine in an incident earlier this week.

Coffee County sheriff’s authorities stated agents with the Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) were investigating the delivery of a contraband substance to a hotel located in 1000 block of North Peterson Ave. on Wednesday when they received an additional tip of suspected drug trafficking that was occurring on the south side of the county and within the City of Nicholls.

Agents began a surveillance of the expected delivery area and, around 12:30 a.m., observed a silver in color Chevrolet Silverado on Rocky Top Rd. in Nicholls that met the description of the suspected trafficker’s vehicle. Agents, along with K-9 units, stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 47-year-old Russell Waters of Nicholls.

A search of Waters and his vehicle produced an ounce and a half of methamphetamine, which was allegedly concealed in Waters’s pants. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered an additional 7.5 ounces.

Waters was arrested and taken to the Coffee County Jail.
