The South Georgia State College swim team held their first home meet last Saturday at the Douglas Campus Wellness Center Pool. SGSC’s women took first place in the three team competition over Thomas University and Lagrange College while the men placed second to Thomas.

Leading the women was Jessica Dunton of Carrollton, GA with three first places in the 400 individual medley and both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Also winning events for the women were Nikki Daley of Warner Robins, GA in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Madison Elliott of Macon, GA in the 100 and 200 breast stroke, and Kiana Ocasio-Molina of Jacksonville, GA in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. On the men’s side, Andrew Brown of Lake Placid, FL took top honors in the 200 breast stroke.

SGSC’s women also won all three relay events. Ocasio-Molina, Elliott, Dunton and Daley won the 200 medley while Bekah Morris of Warner Robins, GA and Delaney Smith of Albany, GA teamed up with Daley and Elliott to win the 200 freestyle event. Brittany Herndon of Carrollton, GA joined in with the group to win the 400 freestyle relay.

“We had a great day at our first home meet of the season. Not only did we swim really well and have a lot of personal best times, but we entertained over 20 alumni, recruits and parents during the meet,” commented C.M. Jenkins, SGSC head swim coach. “The team is appreciative of the nice lunch provided by Ranchero’s of Douglas on the pool patio after the meet. We value the support from our community partners.”

The team will travel to Berry College in Rome, GA November 18 and 19 for a two-day meet.
