The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local authorities are attempting to identify a man killed early Monday morning after being struck by a train in western Coffee County.
Around 2:30 a.m., Coffee County deputies responded to a portion of the CSX railway system between Dennis Harper Rd. and Palmetto Rd. in reference to a person being struck by a train. GBI agents and local investigators subsequently located the body of a black male who has yet to be identified.
Local officials stated the man had been decapitated and was also missing an arm. A backpack believed to be the victim’s was also found near the scene.
The unidentified man was fingerprinted in hopes of making a positive identification, but authorities have been unable to do so as of Monday afternoon.
The body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon for autopsy.
The GBI states the investigation is active and ongoing while agents and sheriff’s investigators pursue leads.
