The South Georgia State College Hawks survived a close first half to pull away for a 112-80 win over the Faith Baptist Post Graduate Crusaders Wednesday night. The win extends the Hawks (12-2) current winning streak to five games.

It was a night where it seemed neither team could miss a shot, especially in the first half. The teams combined for 17 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes, each shooting 62 percent from the field. There were six ties and nine lead changes before the Hawks built a 60-48 lead at halftime.

The Hawks made a total of 19 three-pointers for the game (54 percent) and shot 81 percent from the free throw line.

“Our three-pointers were a huge factor tonight,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “When you shoot that well and play at such a fast pace, you’re going to have success. Tonight was even more impressive knowing that this was our first game after the Christmas break.”

O’Showen Williams led all scorers with 30 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Branielus Ross had 19 points and four rebounds, while Zaquavian Smith finished with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The Hawks now enter the meat of their schedule and will open conference play at home Saturday afternoon against Atlanta Metro. Tip for the game is set for 4 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
