The South Georgia State College Hawks took advantage of strong shooting Monday night to dominate the Atlanta Metro Trailblazers 105-78.

The Hawks (19-7, 7-5) scored 59 points in the first half by shooting 70 percent from the field (24-of-34) and 62 percent from the three-point line (10-of-16). Their percentages didn’t dip much in the second half as the Hawks finished the game shooting 64 percent from the field and 59 percent from behind the arc.

“Outside of our season opener, tonight has got to be the best we’ve shot the ball all season,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “To make 10-of-16 three-pointers in the first half is impressive.”

Trailing 59-41 at halftime, the Trailblazers cut the lead to 82-69 with 7:40 remaining in the second half. The Hawks held the Trailblazers to nine points for the rest of the game.

Four Hawks scored in double digits, led by Shaquille Williams with 20 points. Zaquavian Smith had 18 points, followed by O’Showen Williams with 15 points. Jarred Heard rounded out the top scorers with 10 points.

SGSC will travel to East Georgia State Wednesday night before returning home for the biggest home game of the regular season. The Hawks will host the Georgia Highlands Chargers Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Chargers are currently ranked sixth in the latest NJCAA poll.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
