A subject led deputies and police on a high speed chase in Douglas Saturday afternoon that ended, unsurprisingly, with the arrest of the offender. His name has not been released by authorities.

Just before 3 p.m. Saturday, a deputy pulled over a car on the Willacoochee Highway. During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy discovered that the individual had active warrants. The officer called for backup but the offender was having nothing of the sort. He fled the scene and led deputies and, later, Douglas police officers on a chase that reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. The offender cut through the property of a local church before getting on Walker Street. Eventually, he crashed in the yard of a home.

He wasn’t through, however, and continued his escape on foot. Officers were able to run him down – literally – and take him into custody. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail.

Around 2:45 pm today (3-25-2017) A Coffee County Sheriffs Deputy pulled over a car on the Willacoochee Hwy for an unknown reason at this time, after speaking with the person and running his information the deputy found out the person had warrants on him and called for backup. At this point, the person took off leading officers with the Coffee County Sheriffs Department and Douglas Police department on a High-Speed Chase down county roads and then leading them into the city of Douglas, at this point the driver ran stop signs, going over 90 miles per hour and even running through a church lawn before getting back on Walker St then turning onto side streets and wrecking in a citizen’s yard, the driver then jumped from the car leading officers on a foot chase before being arrested.
