Pet Therapy Visitation
Share your friendly pets with the residents of Manor House and Shady Acres! Residents of assisted living centers may not ever get to pet animals and they may be cat or dog lovers. Pet Therapy gives 4-H members the opportunity to visit with the residents and share their pets at the same time.
The first visitation at Manor House (next door to Shady Acres) will be on Tuesday, September 12, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The first visitation for Shady Acres will be on Monday, October 2, also from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
Remember, you may bring friendly pets, but they must be current with their vaccinations. Also, if you bring turtles, they must be enclosed in a cage and not be touched by anyone as they may transmit Salmonella to humans.

Georgia National Fair
It’s almost fair time! And that means it’s time to think about entering the many contests and events available to 4-H’ers at the Georgia National Fair in Perry. The dates for the fair are October 5-15, but the entry deadline for Coffee County 4‑H’ers is 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 13th. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE PROCESSED!
Contests for 4-H members include: 4‑H Computer Graphic Design Contest, Decorated Agricultural Products Contest, Recycling Contest, Terrarium/Dish Garden Contest, Family Scarecrow Building Contest, 4‑H Promotional Media Contest, Cloverleaf Peanut Contest, Homemade Ice Cream Contest, Pizza Contest, Recipe Contest, Decorated Pumpkin Contest, Public Speaking Contest, Cotton Boll Speech Contest, and the Variety Show.
You can get a copy of the rules for each contest/event from the 4H office or by visiting the Georgia National Fair website at georgianationalfair.com (go to Georgia Living→Youth Educational Exhibits→Competitions-4‑H). Registration forms and exhibits/entries must be turned in to the county 4‑H office by September 13th.
For more information about the Georgia National Fair, you may contact the fair at (800)987-3247 or (800) YUR-FAIR or visit their web site at georgianationalfair.com.

Georgia National Fair Trip
Plans are being made for Junior and Senior 4-H members to go to the Georgia National Fair on Friday, October 6th. The fee for attending the trip is $21 per person. This includes admission to the fair, an armband for the rides, insurance, and transportation. The fee is due in the 4-H office no later than Friday, September 8th. If you miss this September 8th deadline, you will not get an armband for rides. Late fee is $5 for fair admission only.

4-H on Facebook
Coffee County 4-H has a closed group page on Facebook. This page is to help keep parents and students up to date on 4-H activities. The only way that you can join the group is by asking to be added to the group. We do try to restrict this group to 4-H members and parents, so if you are a relative of a 4-H member interested in joining the group, please email me to explain your situation. Otherwise, you probably won’t get added to the group.

Remind
Remind is an app that allows us to send out messages in the form of a text message to your cell phone. If you have a child in 4-H, we encourage you to sign up to receive these texts from our office. You can get the method of signing up from your child’s 4-H newsletter, or email our office and let us know what grade your child is in so that we can give you the code to register.

If you have questions about the Coffee County 4-H Club program, or questions around the farm or home, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
