The South Georgia State College (SGSC) Foundation hosted a reception for scholarship donors and this year’s recipients on October 5, 2017. Mr. Chris Tuten, SGSC Foundation President, kicked off the event with a message of thanks to the Foundation’s scholarship donors. “We are grateful to our many donors. Through your support and generosity, we are helping better prepare for our future through investing in educating these students,” Tuten stated.

For the 2017-2018 academic year, 86 Douglas Campus students received a South Georgia State College Foundation Scholarship with awards totaling over $101,000. This includes a variety of academic, athletic and need-based scholarships.

SGSC President, Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers, shared some special remarks and also took time to express her appreciation to the alumni, individuals and businesses who have supported the College this year, commenting, “Your gift is providing each of these recipients a chance to pursue their dreams. Honestly, I don’t know of anything more special than giving the gift of education, a transformational gift to provide unlimited possibilities for one’s future.”

During the program, each recipient and donor was formally recognized by Ms. Walda Kight, Vice President for External Affairs. She says, “This is such a special occasion, and it is always meaningful when a donor can meet the student their scholarship has helped and hear firsthand the positive impact it has made.”

Founded in 1971, the SGSC Foundation’s mission is to help transform and enhance the lives of SGSC’s diverse student population by providing educational opportunities, financial support and advocacy for students. The Foundation supports efforts that enhance the quality of programs by funding scholarships, new academic initiatives, faculty/staff development, athletic programs and capital projects at SGSC.

All contributions to the SGSC Foundation are tax deductible. For more information about the scholarship opportunities or to make a donation, please contact Ms. Walda Kight by phone at (912) 260-4274 or by email at Walda.Kight@sgsc.edu.
