The City of Douglas Police Department introduces new community program, Coffee with a Cop. Douglas citizens are invited to pull up a chair and grab a cup of coffee on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at McDonalds on South Peterson Avenue from 8 to 9 a.m..
Coffee with a Cop will provide a unique opportunity for citizens to ask questions and learn more about the Police Department’s work in Douglas. The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for building relationships with the community. Also, some community members feel that it is difficult to just walk up to an officer on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, oneon-one interaction.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” says Gary Casteleos, Douglas Police Chief. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

The concept is simple – police and community members come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. The informal contact increases trust in police officers as individuals which is a foundation to building partnerships and engaging in community problem solving. Make plans to pull up a chair and grab a cup of coffee on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at McDonalds on South Peterson Avenue from 8 to 9 a.m.

For more information, please contact Deputy Chief Brannen Pruette at 912-384-2222
