Citizens in Douglas and Coffee County are asked to join in a season of giving by participating in the Coffee County Community Toy Drive. The City of Douglas, along with many local community agencies, are hosting a Toy Drive for boys and girls ages 12 & under.

“We have approximately 500 youth in our community who are on toy lists with local agencies,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “I urge local citizens and businesses to donate a toy or make monetary donation so that we can make Christmas special for community kids.”

Local businesses and community agencies will have large boxes at their entrances for people to donate new unwrapped toy for boys and girls. Local Public Safety and Law Enforcement Agencies will setup on several dates beginning Nov. 19 through Dec. 6, 2017 at area businesses for toy collection. Douglas Police and Douglas Fire Department will host a collection for toys at Walmart, Saturday, November 25, from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Georgia State Patrol will set up on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.. at Walmart to accept toy donations and also provide car seat checks for citizens. CSRA Probation Office and Broxton Police Department will be setup at the Dollar General in Broxton on Dec. 3 from Noon – 4 p.m. for toy collection. Toys can also be dropped off at the Douglas Police Department (225 W. Bryan Street0, Douglas Fire Department (306 E. Cherry Street), City  Hall (224 E. Bryan Street) and the Public Information Department (211 S. Gaskin Avenue).

An application for a family or child in need of assistance must be filled out, on site, at either the Douglas Police Department (225 W. Bryan St.) or Douglas Fire Station #2 (306 E. Cherry St.). Applications without complete information will not be accepted. There is no guarantee that supply of toys will meet the need of all applicants. Therefore, approved applicants will be notified in advance. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. Toys collected will be distributed on December 16, 2017 from 9 a.m.-noon at Central Square Complex. All approved applicants MUST be present to receive toy donations on distribution date and time. If an abundance of toys are received for giveaway, a separate line will be formed on Dec. 16 and will be treated on a first-come / first-served basis.

If a business would rather make a monetary donation for the Coffee County Community Toy Drive, checks should be made payable to: City of Douglas, Memo: Community Toy Drive, 211 S. Gaskin Avenue, Douglas, GA 31533. All monetary donations
collected will be used to purchase gifts for the children.

Special thanks to Southwire, Georgia State Patrol, CSRA Probation Services, Douglas Police Department, Douglas Fire Department, City of Douglas, Broxton Police Department, and other community agencies for their contribution to this community event. To make a donation or to donate a $10 toy, please stop by the Douglas Visitor Information Center located at 211 S. Gaskin Avenue, no later than Dec. 6, 2017. For more information, please call 912-384-2222 or 912-384-4815.
