Mrs. Mildred Udeen Thomas, age 92, of Douglas, GA passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her home, Vista Park. Mrs. Thomas was born November 25, 1925, in Coffee County to the late Samuel Jackson Evans and Idell Teston Evans Cato.
Mrs. Thomas entered the workforce as a seamstress at the hosiery mill in Douglas. She then obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate and enjoyed a 30-year career as a nurse at Coffee Regional Medical Center where she touched the lives of many patients and families. Her hobbies included quilting, fishing, reading, and volunteering with the College Ave. Merry Makers, and she loved the beach and the Atlanta Braves.
She is survived by: her sons: Carroll Thomas and his wife Margaret of Statesboro, GA, Larry Thomas and his wife Jeanie of Douglas, GA; and daughter, Sherry Thomas and her husband Mike, also of Douglas, GA.; grandchildren: Scott Byrd (Adrienne), Jodell Elrod (Raymond), Nadeana Tate, Dawn Roberts, Chad Thomas (Christi), Heather Preston (Robert), Jennifer Bair ( Ricky), Payton Thomas, Mickey Thomas ( Leighanne), Brandy Johnson, Jamie Thomas and Dori O’Steen (Ben); several great-granchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mrs. Thomas is preceded in death by: her husband, Mr. Aldean Thomas; mother, Idell Teston Evans Cato; father, Samual Jackson Evans; son, Randy Evans Thomas; sisters: Essie-Lee Lee, Jessie-Mae Thomas; grandchildren: Christopher White, and Clyde Tate III and Suzanne Holloman; and daughters-in-law Nancy Thomas and Faye Thomas.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 4 p.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member, where Mr. Don Harper and Rev. Mark Mercer officiated.
Active pallbearers were: Ben O’Steen, Blake Roberts, Chad Thomas, Dustin Rowell, Jamie Thomas, Mickey Thomas, Ricky Bair and Robert Preston. Honorary Pallbearers were the staff of Manor House, Vista Park, and the Merry Makers of College Ave. Baptist Church.
Interment followed at the City of Douglas Cemetery.
