Sunday afternoon, officers from the Douglas Police Department arrested Anton Marquise Phillips, 20, of Homerville, while he was in Douglas. Phillips had been the target of a months-long operation among the DPD, the Clinch County District Attorney’s Office, and several other agencies. When approached by officers, Phillips fled, according to a press release posted on the DPD’s Facebook page, and was caught hiding in a storage building.
Phillips was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction of an officer at the time of his arrest. However, he was wanted for a number of violent felonies, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, fleeing/attempting to elude officers, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony theft, and firearm possession charges. He is also a person of interest in a number of armed robberies and burglaries in Douglas.
Phillips is being held at the Coffee County Jail on local and out of county charges. Authorities also expect more serious charges as the investigation continues. As this is an ongoing investigation, anyone with information that would assist in this case is asked to contact the Douglas Police Department at 912-384-2222 or the Tips Line at 912-260-3600.
