The basketball coaches of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) have selected three members of South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) men’s basketball team for postseason awards. Skyler Baggs, Charles Botchway, and Keyshaun Street were each named to the GCAA’s second team All-Region. Baggs was also named to the All-Defensive Team.

Baggs, a 6’5” redshirt sophomore from Brunswick, averaged 14.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game for the Hawks (15-14-1, 7-8-1). His rebounding average was tops in the GCAA, and he led the other rebounding categories as well – offensive rebounds (143), defensive rebounds (194), and total rebounds (337). Baggs also finished in the top five in blocked shots with 32. He had 20 double-double games this season.

Botchway, a 6’1” sophomore from Dacula, averaged 14.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game. His total assists (214) placed him at the top of the GCAA. Botchway also finished in the top 10 in total points scored with 423.

Street, a 5’10” sophomore from Kingsland, averaged 17.3 points per game and shot 78 percent from the free throw line. His points per game average placed him fourth in the GCAA, and he finished sixth in total points scored (449). Street was fifth in the GCAA in free throw percentage and seventh in three-point shooting percentage (41 percent).

The Hawks have clinched the seventh seed in the GCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, which begins Tuesday night. SGSC will travel to Macon, Ga. to play the second seed Central Georgia Tech Titans at 7 p.m. in the first round. The semifinal round and championship game will be played Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the highest remaining seed upon completion of the first round. Andrew College, which clinched the GCAA regular season championship, enters the tournament as the top seed.
