Local attorney, philanthropist receives Jackie Wilson Women in Leadership Award
Lisa Leverette-Lott, an attorney who also operates the Good Deed Club of Coffee County, a local charity that serves children and families, received the annual Jackie Wilson Women in Leadership Award on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at the Women in Business Think Pink event.
The Jackie Wilson Women in Leadership Award celebrates the tremendous impact women have as leaders in their community by honoring an outstanding individual who exhibits an exceptional level of personal and professional standards, excels in business or community service and is dedicated to positively impacting the well-being of Coffee County.
Leverette is a graduate of Coffee High School, South Georgia State College, University of Georgia and Mercer University. She returned to Douglas to serve her community in 2007 and began her law practice, Leverette Law Firm. In 2011, she established the Good Deed Club of Coffee County.
The individual who nominated Leverette for this prestigious award stated, “I believe Lisa Leverette-Lott is very deserving of the Jackie Wilson Women in Leadership Award because she is not only one of the most highly respected and successful attorneys currently practicing in Coffee County, she also serves others to positively impact the community. While Lisa’s profession is practicing law, she has a deep passion to help those less fortunate and has acted upon this calling by establishing the Good Deed Club of Coffee County. Through this organization, Lisa leads a group of volunteers who work together to meet the needs of children and families who are facing difficult times. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, special speakers for the evening included Dr. Justin Peterson, Coffee Regional Women’s Health and Dr. Eric Anderson, Coffee Regional Oncology, both who provided very informative women’s health-related presentations. Cancer survivor Lori O’Neal shared her journey with cancer from diagnosis to treatment and extended her sincere gratitude to CRMC and Dr. Anderson for the services and treatment opportunities now offered in Douglas.
On behalf of Beta Sigma Phi Alpha Theta Chapter, Terry Cook assisted in recognizing all cancer survivors present and provided information about the numerous services the sorority provides with funds raised by the organization. Services may include transportation to treatments and appointments, assistance with co-pays and fees for visits, assistance with rent and utility bills during treatment, groceries, meals and meal replacement shakes, mammograms, mastectomy bras, breast forms, mastectomy pillows, gowns, and drain pouches for recovery during surgery, wigs, turbans, caps, scarves, PINK Baskets of Hope, breast health materials and more.
