Due to Monday’s announcement from Gov. Brian Kemp, all public schools in Georgia (grades Pre-K to 12) will be closed until March 31, 2020. The Coffee County School System released a statement on its Web site Tuesday morning addressing the closure. The statement can be seen below:

Coffee County Schools are closed for all students. This action is being taken as a step in preventing the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

During this time, we understand that many students, families, and community members have questions about how school closures will affect our daily lives.  Our faculty and staff are working on plans to continue providing for student instruction and meal service during the time that our schools are physically closed.

Meal Service

At this time, the Coffee County School System will continue to provide meal service during school closure. Breakfast and lunch (two meals) will be provided at the same time. Instructions for food safety will be included. Meals will not be traditional school meals but will contain some shelf-stable products. Meals are for any child age 18 and under; we cannot provide adult meals per USDA guidelines.

For students who usually ride a bus, buses will run their normal routes beginning at 9 AM Wednesday, March 18 to provide the meal service.  The students must be outside in order to pick up the meals. Buses will continue to run daily to provide meals for the duration of the school closures.

Students who are usually dropped off at school will be able to pick up meals Monday-Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 at each school beginning Wednesday, March 18.  Parents must be accompanied by students in order to pick up student meals.

Instruction

Google Classroom will be used for managing instruction to students in grades K-12. Students who do not have Internet access will receive a learning packet to support the Georgia Standards of Excellence.

Chromebooks

Students who have wireless Internet access at home but need a device to use will be able to check out a school Chromebook with a signed parent agreement to be responsible for the device. Chromebooks will be issued from a centralized location at each school on Wednesday, March 18 from 9:30-10:30 AM. A responsible adult will need to come to the school and complete a form in order to receive a Chromebook. Chromebooks will be returned to school once the normal school routine resumes.

Learning Packets

Learning packets for students who do not have Internet access at home may be picked up from the school’s centralized location Wednesday, March 18 between 9:30 AM-10:30 AM or delivered by the bus.
