This week’s recipe from the UGA SNAP-ED’s Food Talk is Yogurt Crunch Parfait. This recipe is a good recipe to make for breakfast or as a dessert. The ingredients you will need are: 3 tablespoons fresh blueberries, 4 ounces lemon or vanilla low-fat yogurt, and 1 tablespoon crushed breakfast cereal. The instructions include: spoon berries into a cup and top with yogurt. Sprinkle with cereal. Serve immediately. You can replace the blueberries with your favorite fruit. For a healthy crunch, sprinkle nuts or seeds on top. You can set out different fruits, yogurts, and cereals and let each person customize their own parfait.

For some great ideas in the kitchen, visit the UGA Extension’s “FoodTalk” website at https://foodtalk.org. It has great ideas on how to keep your family healthy by making nutritious food choices on a budget.

4-H Summer Activities

Each summer, our staff plans some fun activities for our youth. This year’s activities include a trip to Summer Waves Water Park (June 9), a trip to the Macon Bacon baseball game (June 11), a trip to the Ronald McDonald House in Savannah along with a dolphin cruise and a stop at River Street Sweets (June 16), and lastly a trip to the President Jimmy Carter Historical Site in Plains and to the Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin (June 18). At this time, we are still expecting to do these activities and asking 4-H members interested in participating in them to sign up. The registration form is available on the 4-H website at http://coffee4h.org under the 4-H Forms and Web Links menu. The total cost for all four day-long activities is only $90. If you have a 4-H member interested in registering, please complete a form and mail your form and registration fee to the Coffee County Extension Office at 709 E. Ward Street, Douglas, GA 31533. If we are unable to do these activities in June, we will try to reschedule them during the week of July 13-17. If you register a child and the change of date occurs, we will work with students on refunds who are unable to attend on the new date. If you have any questions, please email them to me at ktatum@uga.edu since our office is still closed due to social distancing.

Summer Camp Update

About all we can say about 4-H summer camp is that we are still awaiting direction from the state 4-H office. We have been told that our probability of attending camp in June is very slim. Keep in mind that nothing is definite, but it is looking like we will be changing dates for our weeks of camp. Cloverleaf 4-H camp for 4th-6th graders at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center will possibly be held the week of July 6-10. Junior 4-H camp for 7th-8th graders at the Fortson 4-H Center will possibly be rescheduled to July 27-31. Senior 4-H camp for 9th-12th graders at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center was originally scheduled for the last week in May and we know that we can’t have camp that particular week.  We are pretty sure that Senior 4-H camp will be held July 27-31 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center.

We are looking at holding our Cloverleaf Camp Orientation Meeting on June 15. If we are unable to meet in person, this meeting will be held through an online service. Each camp participant and a parent are asked to be at this meeting. Forms will be mailed out prior to the orientation meeting and will be discussed during the meeting.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
