Sports are back in Coffee County

The Coffee Lady Trojans softball squad kicked off the fall sports schedules last week with three games all at Faircloth Field in front of large crowds.  Two of the three nights the Lady Trojans walked off their opponent with 7th inning heroics.

In game one Coffee knocked off visiting Thomas County Central 5-2 behind Reagan Thomas’s 10 strikeout performance in six innings.  Madison Strickland picked up the save striking out two of her three outs.  Hannah Capps had a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead the offense while Strickland, Heidi Woodward, Thomas, and Emily Robinson all added a hit.  Woodward’s double drove in a pair of Coffee runs.

Thursday night saw Jeff Davis come to town for a pitcher’s duel that did not disappoint.  Senior Reagan Thomas threw a one-hitter and struck out seven Jackets in the win.  Coffee managed only three hits, one each from Emily Robinson, Reagan Thomas, and Dalana Smith.  After a 7th inning hit by Thomas, courtesy runner Hanna Hutchison scored in a rundown to win it 2-1 and send Coffee fans home happy.

Game three turned out to even more exciting against visiting Tift County as the Lady Trojans trailed 3-1 in the home half of the 7th.  Junior Jenna Graham squeezed home the game winner after Coffee scored three times with only one out to walk off for the second consecutive night.  Graham had a pair of hits and Madion Strickland, Hannah Capps, Emily Elisis, Emily Robinson, Alden Smith, and Dalana Smith all had a hit.  Thomas and Strickland split the pitching duties with Strickland getting the win in relief with six strikeouts in three innings.

“This team never quits and the fans who were here saw that. We had some defensive problems this week but it’s understandable this early in the year.  I’m proud of the way they fight every night and get the job done, typical grit from Coffee kids and it’s always great to be a Trojan!” says head coach Stan Hughes.
