Sheriff’s office makes arrest in stabbing, other incidents

On July 28, 2020, Coffee County deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Oak Park community about a shots fired call. Upon arrival at the location a deputy spoke with a female subject at the location. The female stated that a white male subject identified as Billy Ray Taylor, 35 of Pearson, had come to the residence and had gotten into a verbal dispute with owner and other individuals at the location. Taylor then reportedly went back to his vehicle which was parked across the road to leave the location. Persons at the location reported that as Taylor rode past the residence, he pointed what appeared to be a rifle and fired it in the direction of the victims and then fled the area in a white van. Detectives were called to the scene. Taylor was later located in Atkinson County where he was taken into custody. Taylor is currently in the Coffee County Jail. He has been charged with aggravated assault and his first appearance bond was denied. 

 

On July 31, 2020, Georgia State Patrol officers were conducting a road check on George Deen Road. During this road check officers contacted Johnny David Smith, 24 of West Green. Smith’s driver’s license was suspended and Smith was found to be driving while DUI. Troopers began an inventory search of the vehicle and located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine in the center console. Detectives were notified, and the drugs were turned over to them. Smith was transported to the Coffee County Jail. The drugs were field tested, and the results were positive for methamphetamine.  The weight was obtained on a non-certified scale with the result being 1.5 grams. Smith is currently incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail on traffic offenses, probation violation, bench warrant and possession of methamphetamine. His first appearance bond was denied.

 

On August 3, 2020, deputies were dispatched to a Maple Street address in Oak Park about a burglary. The victim advised the responding deputy that someone had burglarized his residence. Reported missing from the residence were three. The Coffee County Criminal Division was notified, and detectives responded. The detectives were able to quickly develop suspects which they determined to be juveniles and located them a short time later. The property was recovered and returned to the owner.

 

On August 4, 2020 deputies with the K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Oak Park area for speeding and failing to maintain lane. The subject in the vehicle was identified as Randy Rish Jr., 23 of Douglas. Officers conducted further investigation and Rish was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug related objects. Rish was placed under arrest and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Rish has been charged with several traffic violations, possession of drug related objects and possession of methamphetamine. His first appearance bond was denied.

 

On August 5, 2020, detectives made contact with a female subject identified as Jessica JoJo Nettles, 30 of Douglas. Nettles had an active bench warrant for her arrest. She was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Nettles is currently in the Coffee County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

 

On August 5, 2020, deputies were dispatched to a residence on English Street in reference to a motor vehicle theft. The victim stated that she had taken her car to this location to be worked on and someone had reportedly stolen it from the location. While the responding deputy was talking to the victim, another deputy found an abandoned vehicle on Miller Road. The vehicle was the vehicle that was missing. The property was recovered and returned. The investigation is ongoing and arrests are pending.

 

On August 5, 2020, deputies were responded to a residence on the Old Fitzgerald Highway in reference to a stolen 1998 Dodge truck. Deputies placed an immediate BOLO for the vehicle to all nearby agencies. Within a short time deputies received information of a possible location of the vehicle. Officers responded to a location near Mary Hayes Park in Broxton near a wooded area. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner. The offenders were determined to be juveniles.

 

August 5, 2020, deputies responded to a residence in the Oak Park area in reference to an assault. Upon arrival officers discovered that a white male subject had been stabbed. The male subject was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center where he was then life flighted to Jacksonville, Fla., because of his injuries. The case was turned Coffee County criminal investigators for further investigation. As a result of that investigation detectives determined that an altercation had occurred between the victim and a female subject identified as Marcia Lollie, 37 of Douglas. The victim and Lollie were not strangers. The male victim in this case observed Lollie walking down the road and reportedly asked her to get in the car with him and she refused. This resulted in a physical confrontation where Lollie cut the victim’s front tires with a knife and then stabbed him. The victim got back in his vehicle and drove to another location and 911 was called. Lollie was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She is currently incarcerated in the Coffee County Jail.

 

Sheriff Doyle Wooten wants to thank these detectives as well as the other deputies and officers in Douglas, Broxton, and Nicholls for their continued dedication to making the community safe for all citizens.
