Two of Douglas’s oldest independent agencies merge

At the start of this year, two of Douglas’s oldest independent insurance agencies, McCrary-Daniels Insurance Agency and Meeks Insurance Agency, joined forces.  Both agencies have long been staples within our community, dating back nearly 100 years for McCrary-Daniels and nearly 90 years for Meeks.

McCrary-Daniels first started operation under the name of W.S. Connor Insurance in 1924 and officially became the current namesake in 1954, when Mac McCrary and Ted Daniels decided to operate the agency.

Meeks Insurance was founded in 1978 as the entity Meeks, Taylor and Towson Insurance Agency.  The group of Meeks, Taylor & Townson purchased the John A McLean Insurance Agency which started in the 1940’s.  The McLean Agency was the result of an acquisition of the Lonnie A. Pope Insurance Agency which started in the 1930’s.  Julian and Ada Meeks decided to take sole ownership of the agency in 1980 forming the current entity of Meeks Insurance.  A special moment occurred for the Meeks family when they were able to acquire the Francis Rains Insurance Agency soon thereafter, an agency which Julian’s grandfather, Lloyd Meeks, had originally operated as Meeks Insurance.

With the merger, both locations will remain open and business will continue as usual, but with extra offerings.  Both Julian and Ada Meeks will remain at the 800 N Madison Ave location, and the McCrary-Daniels team will continue to operate at their 120 N Madison Ave location.  Customers of either agency will not be affected as a result of this merger, and nothing needs to be done by the customers.

The merger has allowed for growth among the two agencies, who have added agents Shirley Wade and Jonathon Holliday to their staff.  Shirley has been in the insurance industry for over 30 years, dating back to her time at the local Nationwide office.  Jonathon is a 2016 graduate of UGA’s nationally recognized Risk Management Insurance program.  He is a former intern of McCrary-Daniels, and also interned in the underwriting department at Georgia Farm Bureau.  Jonathon has spent the last three years as a licensed insurance agent.   The two agencies now have nine licensed agents on staff, providing the protection and service that you deserve.  Thanks to the merger, there are now more products and companies available than ever before at both locations. This will allow McCrary-Daniels and Meeks to provide any insurance an individual or business may need.

“We are all excited to announce this merger to a community that has trusted us to provide insurance protection for nearly 100 years.   We love our community, and we look forward to continuing to serve it for many years to come.”

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact either location at the numbers below:
