The No. 2 seed South Georgia State College Hawks punched their ticket to the GCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship Game Friday night with a 73-67 win over the No. 3 seed South Georgia Tech Jets.

The Hawks never trailed during the game. SGSC held South Georgia Tech to only two points in the first seven minutes and built a 14-point lead during the first half before the Jets closed the gap to six (32-26) at halftime. South Georgia Tech tied the game once in the second half (55-55).

Daniel Parrish led the Hawks with 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Jordan Coffee had 13 points, three rebounds and five assists. Jalen King and Bryce Brown each finished with 11 points. Brown had another strong night on the boards, grabbing a total of 14 rebounds.

The win moves SGSC into Saturday’s GCAA Championship Game against No. 8 seed East Georgia State. Tip for the game is set for 4 p.m. and will be streamed through the GCAA website: www.thegcaa.com/tournament/2020-21/2021gcaawebstreamlinks

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a total of 50 general admission tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis for the championship game. The tickets will go on sale in front of the Waycross Campus Gymnasium beginning at 3 p.m.

The winner of Saturday’s game earns a berth in the 2021 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship April 19-24 in Hutchinson, Kan.
