The WWII Flight Training Air Base Preservation and Development Committee held an Arbor Day and Tree Dedication Ceremony on April 30, 2021 in honor of longtime committee member and retired city employee, Ken Hayes. Ken was instrumental in the development of the committee and played a major role with the WWII Air Base being place on the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Hayes passed away earlier this year after battling cancer. The 80+ trees that are planted on the Air Base will serve as buffer between the Air Base and Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Special guests were members of Ken’s family: his daughter Heather McDonald, son Kenneth & Sarah Hayes, sister Shari & Charles Watson, and Ken’s grandchildren (Addison McDonald, Lucas McDonald, Sklar Hayes and Zander Hayes). Special thanks to Dr. Patel, American Legion Post 515, and Georgia Forestry Commission.
