LPN Bridgette Leverette is CRMC’s 4th quarter 2021 DAISY Award recipient.

On March 22, 2022, a ceremony was held to honor the DAISY Award winner for the 4th quarter of 2021, Bridgette (Bri) Leverette. She is a Licensed Practical Nurse on our Medical Unit and was nominated by a patient’s family member.

The family member stated, “Bri was my brother’s nurse on the night of his impending death. My brother had end-stage lung cancer and was admitted under hospice as an inpatient. He was struggling with shortness of breath and air hunger. He was frightened, restless, and confused. He was dying. But Bri assured us that she would do everything to make sure he was comfortable. She also made sure that the family was as comfortable as could be. She brought us water, coffee, and even a blanket. She made sure his children felt emotionally stable as the young adults that they were. His daughter and I stayed after visiting hours on the long night of his death. Bri continued to check on him frequently to assure he’s comfortable and would always ask if there was anything we needed. Her sweet spirit and calm demeanor were soothing. She knew when it was time to call the hospice nurse. She consoled us as he took his last breath. Bri is an awesome nurse! I’m sure numerous patients and families have been blessed with her care and compassion. Bri was a godsend to my brother and our family in a very difficult time.”

Coffee Regional Medical Center would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Bri and all the nominees for the 4th quarter of 2021. Showing care and compassion to all patients and their family members is essential and it’s what you do each day. Going the extra mile to ensure patient safety and satisfaction is what this recognition is all about. As we remain focused on our efforts, we are proud of our hard-working caregivers who have all shown unwavering determination and drive throughout these unprecedented times. Thank you for all you do, each day, to care for our patients (and each other) while staying true to Our Purpose; To Serve, To Heal, To Save.

Created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, the DAISY Foundation honors nurses internationally. Mr. Barnes’s family was positively impacted by the nurses who skillfully and compassionately cared for Patrick during his eight-week hospitalization for a critical illness.

Unfortunately, Mr. Barnes did not survive his illness; however, the nursing care he received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. The Barnes family wanted a way to honor Patrick and chose to recognize nurses everywhere for their dedication. The DAISY Foundation has been utilized by over 4,500 healthcare facilities and nursing schools in the U.S. and worldwide.

Anyone may nominate nurses including those outside the organization – patients, family members, as well as those inside the organization: other nurses, physicians, and other clinicians and staff – anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary and compassionate care.
