When Maurice Turner was considering which college he would attend after graduating from Coffee High last year, he had several schools from which to choose. Louisville and Cincinnati were among those schools vying for his talents.

He ultimately chose Louisville. Cincinnati wishes he would have chosen differently.

Turner, a true freshman who played sparingly during the 2022 season, announced his presence to the college football world on Saturday against Cincinnati. The Cardinals defeated the Bearcats 24-7 in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl at Fenway Park. Turner led the Cardinals and torched Cincinnati with 160 yards on 31 carries with a long of 48. He didn’t get in the end zone but he did all the heavy lifting for Jawhar Jordan and Marshan Ford, the two Cardinals who found the end zone for Louisville.

For the season, Turner tallied 314 yards on 65 carries. He also caught 12 passes for 72 yards.

A Rivals.com three-star recruit, Turner was named Region 1-5A Athlete of the Year for the 2021 season.
