The coldest temperatures that Georgia has seen in years are here. Coffee County is expected to see temperatures in the teens for the first time in eight years.

Data from the National Weather Service shows today and Christmas Eve to be the coldest days of the week in Coffee County. According to their forecast, today’s highest temperature is expected to be 47 degrees, with a low of 20 degrees, a high of 35 degrees, and a low of 18 degrees on Saturday.

If predictions are accurate, this will be the first time in seven years that the county has seen temperatures in the teens. Local weather data showed the weather to be as cold as 16.4 degrees on January 7, 2014, and again on January 8, 2014, with a low of 19.5 degrees.

Forecasters are also expecting cold winds on Friday, showing winds up to 22 mph with 33 mph gusts.

On Sunday, Coffee County will see the coldest Christmas in over 20 years, with a high of 40 and a low of 21. Last year, temperatures reached 71.5 degrees on Christmas Day, with the low being 36 degrees.

The cold snap will continue through the beginning of next week, with lows reported to be from 20 to 23 degrees through Wednesday and highs no warmer than 47 degrees.

Temperatures will rise next Wednesday and throughout the week, reaching a high of 62 on Thursday.
