The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) recognized Jeremiah Bazell as youth council spotlight, Rahkeem Paulk as Outstanding Community Leader, and heard from City Finance Director Tommy Harrell and Dr. Saundrett Gibbs at the April youth council meeting.

The Youth Council Jr. Commissioner Jeremiah Bazell was recognized for this month’s Youth Council spotlight. Jeremiah is the son of Gerald Bazell and Cynthia Lloyd. He attends George Washington Carver Freshman Campus where he is a straight A student and has over 100 hrs. of community service. Jeremiah participates in Ambitious Young Men, Mayor’s Youth Council, and Teen Court as well as plays basketball and track. He attends Greater Destiny International Ministries.

The Youth Council chose Mr. Rahkeem Paulk as the Outstanding Community Leader Spotlight for April. Rahkeem is the founder and CEO of Elite Stars and Sports Training and the Youth Pastor of Faith ONE17.  He was recognized for his service as a leader in various youth sports and for teaching youth in Douglas through ministry.

A brief municipal Finance & Budgeting learning session was led by Mr. Tommy Harrell for the Youth Council members. Mr. Harrell stressed the needs for a city to always have a balanced budget while maintaining goods and services for citizens.

Dr. Saundrett Gibbs, Dermatologist, presented a program about the importance of skin care.  Dr. Gibbs talked about various over the counter, prescription, and procedural options for acne and facial skin care. She addressed the need for persons with acne issues to look for oil-free, non-comedogenic products that do not clog pores when searching for the correct treatment.

The next Mayor’s Youth Council will be held on May 16, 2023, at 6 pm at City Hall. The public is invited to attend Youth Council meetings. For more details on the Youth Council or Teen Court program, please contact Dinitra Williams, Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council & Teen Court Coordinator, at (912)331-9398 or call the City Clerk’s office at (912) 389-3405.
