On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, members of the Douglas Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH) Housing Team toured around the community to several properties that recently received home renovations thanks to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) Grant. These residential homes received many upgrades, and owners were very thankful for the rehabilitation work on their homes. The Douglas Housing Team also recognizes Chris Calhoun and Camp 151 for their assistance in rehabbing six homes in Douglas at no expense to the homeowners.

The Douglas Housing Team is part of the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing which works to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing in Douglas. In addition to the CDBG program, the City of Douglas is accepting applications for Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) grant funds. To qualify for the CHIP funds, you must own and live in the home, meet financial requirements, and meet other criteria. The target areas for the CHIP are portions of W. Railroad Street, W. Cherry Street, Magnolia Street, Willow Street, W. Baker Highway, S. Grady Avenue, S. Daughtry Avenue, S. College Avenue, William Street, S. Wheeler Street, S. Letitia Avenue, Tillman Street, Shirley Avenue. If you are a homeowner in the target area and would like to see if you qualify, please call Christian Burkett at (912) 383-0277.

Douglas GICH Housing Team members in attendance were Mickeayla Brockington, Dexter Taylor, Tabitha Paulk, Matt Seale (Chairman), Joy Vickers, Delois Johnson, Clara Graham, Christian Burkett (Grants Administrator), Ebonee Dobson (City Planner), and Ivy Clark (Finance/Grants).
