Mrs. Oneita Wilkerson Johnson, age 94 of the Satilla Community in Douglas, GA, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Lakeside Senior Living under the care of Bethany Hospice. Mrs. Oneita was born September 20, 1929 in Berrien County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Dave Wilkerson and the late Mary Ann Missouri Tyson Wilkerson. She was one of thirteen children, nine of whom lived to adulthood. Oneita was the 1946 Valedictorian of Poplar Springs High School in Berrien County, Georgia. She was a member of Harrell Grove Baptist Church in Coffee County, GA, where she occasionally shared her love of singing and playing the guitar, a skill she started when she was 10 years old. She loved God, her family, friends, flowers, music and cooking. She was retired from the Coffee County Board of Education as lunchroom manager at the old Coffee Middle School.

 

 

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Braxton Johnson; Son-in-law, Robert Wiley Fletcher II; Great Grandson, Chance Gibbs; Sisters: Earnie Wilkerson, Elma (Charles) Byrd, Opal (James) Mancil, Ann (Silas) Cloud, Mary (Milton) Mullis; Brothers: Joseph David (J. D.) Wilkerson (Othelle), Thomas Jackson (T. J.) Wilkerson; and four siblings that died as infants; Brothers-in-law: Nathaniel [Johnny] Johnson (Blondine), Russell Johnson (Jeri), Paul Johnson, Rev. Freeman O’Steen; Sisters-in-law: Dorothy J. O’Steen Jowers, and Isabelle Vickers Woods.

 

 

Survivors include her children: Lee Johnson (Dealva) of Baxley, GA, Kathy Johnson Fletcher of West Green, GA; Brother: Olin Charles Wilkerson (Lula) of Nashville, GA; Grandchildren: Trae Fletcher (Fran) and Dan Fletcher (Amy) of West Green, GA, Jeremy B. Johnson (Bridgett) of Baxley, GA, Rebecca Johnson (Shannon) Gibbs of Canton, GA; Great-grandchildren: Jake Fletcher, Adron Fletcher, Mari Fletcher, Phara Fletcher, Jaxon Fletcher all of West Green, GA, Shelby Gibbs and Tyson Gibbs of Canton, GA, and Aria Johnson and Branch Johnson of Baxley, GA. She is also survived my many nieces and nephews.

 

 

The family will receive friends on Friday evening November 3, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home in Douglas. Graveside services will be held at Satilla Memorial Gardens located on Highway 441 South, Coffee County, GA with Rev. Jimbo Steed officiating.

 

 

Honorary Pallbearers will include the staff and employees from Lakeside Senior Living, Bethany Hospice, and members of Harrell Grove Baptist Church.

 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Oneita Wilkerson Johnson to any organization of your choice.

 

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
