Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s pursuit of a 2,000 receiving yards isn’t over yet but it took a hit over the weekend.
Hill, who suffered an ankle injury on Monday, December 11 against the Tennessee Titans, did not play in Sunday’s 30-0 victory over the New York Jets. His absence in that game, which could have been a statistical windfall had he been in the lineup, means he’s got to work that much harder over the Dolphins’ final three games to hit the magic 2,000 yard mark.
Hill is leading the NFL in receiving with 1,542 yards over 14 games. He’s averaged over 110 yards per game this season. However, to reach 2,000 yards, he’s got to average 153 yards per game in these last three games. Miami’s remaining games are against the Dallas Cowboys (12/24, at home), the Baltimore Ravens (12/31, in Baltimore), and the Buffalo Bills (1/7, at home).
Miami hasn’t played the Cowboys or the Ravens this year; however, the Bills have given Hill and his teammates some problems this season. On October 1, the two teams played in Buffalo and the Bills came away with a 48-20 win. In that game, Hill caught three passes for 58 yards.
This season, Hill has five games with over 153 yards: 9/10 against the Chargers (215 yards), 9/24 against the Broncos (157 yards), 10/8 against the Giants (181 yards), 10/15 against the Panthers (163 yards), and 12/3 against Washington (157 yards).
Hill’s 1,542 yards is 228 yards ahead of second-place AJ Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles. His 12 receiving touchdowns are also leading the NFL; he’s one ahead of Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans.
The Dolphins remain in first place in the AFC East with a 10-4 record.
