In the aftermath of the Coffee Trojans’ state football championship nearly two weeks ago, the postseason awards for players started rolling in.
Now it’s the coaches’ turn.
Several members of the Coffee coaching staff have been named Class 5A assistant coaches of the year by Parker Resources.
In a Facebook post, head coach Mike Coe wrote “You win with good folks. Our superintendent, Dr. [Morris] Leis, has allowed me to build an elite staff of good men first and then football coaches second . . . Congrats fellas! Appreciate all of you!”
Coach Coe was named Head Coach of the Year, one of several head coach of the year awards he received this season.
Here are the Coffee assistants who made the list as well:
Defensive coordinator: Mike Granato
Offensive coordinator: Jim Ertzberger
Offensive line: Bob Hall
Running backs: Rich Vester
Linebackers – Kenny Grantham
Strength and conditioning – Mike Booth
The Coffee offense, led by quarterback Maurice Hansley and the GHSA’s leading rusher Fred Brown, was one of the most prolific offenses in the state. And the Coffee defense, which will go down as Coffee’s greatest defense in program history, allowed 5.7 points per game – the best in the state regardless of classification. The Trojans finished the season a perfect 15-0 and won the first state championship in program history.
